.....  Open Water Diver Course

Want to learn to scuba dive? Then this course is your first step into an incredible new experience. In this class, you will learn basic and safe scuba diving taught through academic training, confined, and open water practice sessions. After successful completion, you will be a Certified PADI Open Water Diver! PADI certifications are recognized by virtually all dive operations around the globe. Our class sizes are small, typically no more than 6 per class (unlike many dive shops that may do 20 or more!) This allows us to focus more on meeting the needs of each individual student.

There are 3 requirements to get certified:

1. Academic (Home Study)
With the home study option, you cut the costs of classroom instruction. You can get started right away with PADI's eLearning online training system, and complete before you have your first pool session (purchase from PADI direct). Study at your own pace - you can log in at home, work, or anywhere you have an internet connection. You spend virtually no time in a classroom, and more time underwater. After completing the eLearning academic session, you will have a final exam when you're ready at Ohio Scuba.

2. Confined Water Practice Sessions (pool)
The confined water practice sessions are also broken down into 5 modules. Confined water training is done in our heated private pool (summer) or at the Fairborn YMCA (winter), not in a crowded public one. With each new skill you learn, the more comfortable you will become with scuba and breathing underwater. There is also a short swim test and survival float.

3. Open Water Sessions (Check Out Dives, Summer only)
During the Open Water dives, we use all of the scuba information and skills that you have mastered during the academic and pool sessions. The dives will take place on two separate days, with two dives on each day at a local quarry. Here you will demonstrate the skills that you learned in the pool. It is recommended that you have your own mask, snorkel, and fins for the Open Water training. During the winter months, or if you prefer to do your open water elsewhere, we can do only the academic and confined water portions. We'll then give you a referral card which is accepted at all PADI training facilities worldwide, or finish your open water here in the summer.
